The Teen’s Farewell Party takes place in Brookfield and begins following the completion of the Musicale which should end at about 9:00 pm. (The Children’s Farewell Party, also in Brookfield, should have ended prior to 9:00). Brainstorm with the teen group leaders about how to encourage the teens to help plan and attend the party. In 2009, we expect about 50 teens to be in the program.
Food and soda are important. It is suggested that you bring soft drinks, munchies, and paper goods from home; you will be reimbursed by the conference treasurer. Ice cream will be ordered from conference services.
Arrange Music - get a D.J (whomever you decide on, ask him/her well before Star so music can be brought). Please keep the sound low during Candlelight chapel (10:00 to 11:00). Bedtime curfews are relaxed for Mid and Sr. teens on the last night. Speak to the group leaders ahead of time to get assurances that they have discussed this custom with the kids and the responsible behavior it requires.
Jr. Teens DO have a curfew: 11:00 p.m., extended from 10:00 p.m. No Jr. Teen should be in Brookfield after 11:00 p.m. unless accompanied by his/her parent. Their time will come! If possible, earlier in the week check with Jr. Teen Group Leaders that they will discuss this expectation with the kids during group time on Friday morning. Please announce at 10:55 p.m. that Jr. Teens should leave for their own rooms.
Four people will probably do this job fairly easily….get one or two Senior Teens involved.
The Star Island Corporation has made a special request that Brookfield be well cleaned up after the party. Negotiate cleanup plans with Conference Services; determine what part of the cleanup they will provide. Enlist any helpers you need - get some teen volunteers in advance and ask some teen parents to help.
